What to do if You Have Pre-Diabetes

Pre-diabetes is a condition that often precedes full blown diabetes type 2. By being vigilant and checking to see if you have pre-diabetes, you can prevent the onset of full blown type 2 diabetes, and even reverse your pre-diabetes blood sugar levels back to a normal level again.

The trick is to know that you have pre-diabetes, which is a symptom-free condition. If you have a family history of diabetes, are overweight, and are non Caucasian, you have a greater risk for diabetes type 2. Get yourself tested to see if you have pre-diabetes.

If you are confirmed to have pre-diabetes, a few lifestyle changes can help you avoid becoming a type 2 diabetic. First, lose between 5-10 percent of your total body weight.

You can do this with moderate exercise such as walking 30 minutes a day five days a week. Complement this with a healthy diet that is low in simple sugars and rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and healthy proteins.

These tips are simple and quite fundamental, whether you have pre-diabetes or not. But they are much more important to the pre-diabetic, because if you can avoid the onset of type 2 diabetes, you are avoiding a condition that is life threatening.
